Dec 16th Long afternoon shadows M4 had the Blues. Amen

The one video I took was actually of my last run, which was my best clean time of 44.429. Meh.

Man, what a long day! But, a great "last Open event" to finish off 2018 with. As always, we couldn't do this without you. All of you! Thanks! I'm still miffed that I ran a 43.4xx and a 43.229 and coned away both of them! I had to settle for a 44.4, which was only good for 3rd in today's unusually la...

I'll give it a try this Sunday, I always feel like I just "survive" slaloms. Cliff, you're pretty darned fast. That generally means that you're going to feel like you're just barely making it through EVERYTHING on the course. You couldn't be as fast as you are without doing things at least close to...

Butt dyno doesn't lie. It's not a huge change, but quick initial testing shows quicker accel from 1500-2500, and from 4000-6000. Unfortunately, there was a dip in the middle, so overall accel from 1500-6000 was nearly the same. Feels good down low, though... and that's kinda nice. And there's a litt...

Ah, another car reviewer who can't accept that every car doesn't need 400 hp. It's hard to find a good review of the Mirage... or its engine.

Brief fiddling in Photoshop shows that the G4 has more potential for being truckified. It's got 4" more wheelbase, so it's longer... which makes it look better as a truck. But, the G4 starts out 100 pounds heavier than the Mirage hatchback. So, a good portion of the weight "saved" by chopping the ba...

New Muffler is in. (thanks, Joe!) The first muffler was a Walker Tru-fit, which was about the cheapest muffler available in that size. This time, I did some more research and opted for a slightly more expensive muffler, the Walker Sound FX, which is reported to be very quiet. I'm just hoping it stay...

Probably 2+ cones ahead and/or at the end of the slalom. Think about what matters in a slalom. For an evenly spaced (or slightly increasing) and straight (or slightly increasing offset) slalom, you can set your pace (or your rate of acceleration) and get into the groove. You should be looking PAST t...

I didn't think about the G4. It is a completely different body style. Might be some options there. Hmmm...

Oh, wow. This was so bad, I didn't even try to save it. Photoshop really didn't like the truckification of the Mirage! The way the side accent lines slant upward toward the rear puts the bed line pretty high, and the driver's seating position with the seat all the way back would put the cab about 8"...

Recommend a Body Shop

If you don't come up with anything else, the place in Safety Harbor that did the repaint on my wife's Miata was American Dreams Restoration. I can't say that they did a "perfect" job. (though, I'm not sure that anyone does... unless you're willing to pay for it) But, they did a very good job at a re...

Move the top of the strut tower up!

But, really, with the body of the car being that low, I guess you don't need that much travel, anyway.

They do hood bulges for intakes and stuff... why not for strut tops? :)

Experienced autocrossers don't know how to slalom? Stunning.

We could have disguised some of that outgoing slalom with Chicago boxes and other trickery. Not doing so was our Christmas gift to the course workers and setup crew.

PS: It's a really easy slalom.
