Typical Florida forecast. It'll rain somewhere. Maybe where we are, maybe not.

Absolutely! If not for the whole fuel tank fiasco, they'd be remembered more fondly -- the basic platform wasn't bad, and they came with the same engine that formed the basis for Formula Ford. I worked with a guy who had a 4-speed base model in the mid-'80s, and the thing was a hoot! IIRC, some SCCA...

2020 Rule Change Ideas

The bigger problem (for S5) is that people who truly appreciate "driving a slow car fast" are rare. Most folks who are into autocross rarely want to drive anything slower than a 1.8 Miata. Could be. Of course, slow cars aren't as slow as they used to be...or if they are, it's because they're not ve...

PAX is based on national and large region front runners, which generally means a limited slice of the possible cars in a class. So yes, the Fiesta ST and Civic Si -- "proper HS cars" -- are pretty comparable to the Miata and MR2 Spyder, all other things being similar. We've empirically confirmed tha...

Now, to be fair, I specifically bought the Mirage to compete in S5. Leaving it unmodified just proved to not be an option. Sure it was...it just wouldn't have been competitive. Try a '90s or '00s Honda, Mazda, or Toyota. Or if you really want to stray off the beaten path (and can find one), a Pinto.

Oh, leaving it is a strong consideration. But, a class with only one driver qualified for a trophy at the end of a season is disappointing. You mean R1, right? ;) That doesn't distress you because you don't identify with the class. S5 distresses you because you do identify with it...but not enough ...

The only shortcoming that comes to mind for me is the never-ending quest to get more action in the S5 class. For 2018-19, we had 11 drivers in S5... and 10 drivers in R1. M0 ended up larger due to several people opting to "class up" just to challenge the handful of regular M0 drivers. R1 is what it...

Something about 75 ft-lbs of extra torque. Assuming I'm making anything close to the factory spec at 280,000 miles....

S4 got me like... Step 1 - Get out of your own head. Step 2 - Get into Jamie's head. If that's what he's relying on, you may as well give me 2d place now. Oh snap! Lol I remember when Sophia started saying that...in the 4th grade! How can Taylor master this course when he can't reach the pedals yet...

Not so sure, there...all I see is Loren taking a nap under the car, and some other guy relaxing on the front fender. Or resting his head against the hood and also taking a nap. The guy all the way in back might be doing something....

Secrets of the Mirage

you just drive the Mirage around flat out until the tires break loose Others (such as Philip) will disagree, but I'm of the opinion that if I drive this car until the tires break loose... as soon as that happens, I've lost some momentum that I can't get back. So, no... that's not how I drive it. I ...

Secrets of the Mirage

Having driven both, I think a stock Miata's faster in an absolute sense, but the handling limits are lower, and when you have to lift, your power advantage goes away. For most of the courses we run, you just drive the Mirage around flat out until the tires break loose. The only other limitation I no...
