April 7 - The Long Brooksville Goodbye

Postby Loren » Sun Apr 07, 2019 10:29 pm

Whew, what a long day! But, it was a fitting farewell to a chunk of concrete that gave us 13 of its best years. If you were one of the many who were there, thanks for coming to share the day with us!

Stunning number of no-shows for such a special event. Not sure what's up with that. :dunno:

But, the Results are up! Something is up with the by Time and by Pax results. DNS entries are showing up in weird places. Everything else looks right, though.

In spite of being shortened a bit due to a truck that was left where our turn-around should have been, this ended up being a really fun course! Wish I'd have taken the time to record some of my runs.

Today was a great day and the perfect way to end our run at Brooksville. I'll miss the site for sure. Thanks to the FAST organizers for making today's event extra special for us all. The pizza was delicious!

Excited that I was able to pull off a win in S4 for my last time at Brooksville. I was really feeling the course today and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Here's my fastest run with a 33.705

Was honored with the very last FAST run on the old concrete. Glad to be able to bring down the curtain.
Made sure Phillip was ready to get some pics, but he decided to just film the whole run. Hope it turned out ok.
Was actually my slowest run of the day. I overcooked and thus ended up pushing wide in the turnaround, which blows the setup for the next offset and then I got a little loose in the walls of doom.

Started autocrossing with Fast/brooksville 3 years ago, thanks for the good times and also the good times that are to come in the future!

Course was fine, damn the truck being on the run way so the straight away was taken out :bangwall: . After my meh results in my morning class runs(33.7) I sat in the car, reflected on the short comings, took a nap and was ready for the Fun Runs! The first half of the course I had it down, it was the last half I was goofing up, mostly at the ending slaloms. I had to go into it faster and not brake too much. I was able to constantly get in the low 33's so it was an improvement. I was pretty sure Ron was going to take the class win but he coned his 33.6 :thumbwink:  . Almost buddy!

LOL for some reason my "FN" time didn't show up in the overall time and pax list, not a big deal as I coned my best runs in FN as well. :bangwall:

An excellent sendoff, if not unwanted! I'm exhausted still, but had a great day. Was very happy with my driving, and just tickled that my codriver's family had such a good time. Heck, I'm tickled that everyone had a good time.

Thanks to everyone - but especially several folks who volunteered for trash-hauling duty! It's a dirty job...

See y'all in a couple weeks!

Great event. My guests had a good time and were very impressed with how well things are done at FAST.

Thank you Ken T and Dave W for taking my guests for rides. They loved it!

Our daughter, who hauls her kids around in a CRV, did pretty well her first time out in a car she's never driven. I don't know if she'll continue at it but she had a blast and her driving has potential.

I don't have as much Brooksville history as most of you, but I've come to appreciate it's benefits, so I will miss it as well :(

What an event! I had a great time and ended up doing pretty well. Unfortunately my SD card was corrupted so I didn't get any footage of my rune, oh well. A lot of great memories at this site, even if there's only about about 1.5 years of them for me. Looking forward to the future sites to come. I'm excited for what's in store! Thanks FAST crew for keeping up on finding new sites!

Those 32.6/7 runs were impressive. I should've removed my back seats. Apparently to be in the 32 second club you can only have 2 seats.

As much as I'd like to bid a big fu to the crew who blocked off half of our halved runway, the small tight course was fun and admittedly beneficial to the small cars, plus it was as fun as ever too.

Thanks to all, and RIP runway. I hope the rich boys in their flying toys enjoy flying into a graveyard lol

This isn't anything to do with recreational flying...it's all business. Especially since it appears the company building out that section of the airport lost the maintenance contract down at Tampa Intl (Aaron...you know anything about that?), so they may be accelerating their plans. The airport can't ignore that sort of investment and addition of aviation-related jobs.

And while the runway's been fun, I'm looking forward to sites that allow course designs other than slalom up, turn around, slalom back.

So what was up with the white pickup? I remember using a Goodyear parking lot in Akron and putting any forgotten employee cars at the center of turnarounds. Trains don't fall off the inside of a track:)

What a fun time!! Got to drive a car with lots of power and an incredibly fantastic suspension setup!! Thank you Scott Johnson for that!! I was so scared of damaging his car and not hitting cones that i think it really helped, versus the mentality of driving a 2k dollar miata and just pushing the petal down and hoping you don't lose the rear end. Sad to know the airport is over and done with as that was my beginning of an awesome addiction with my truck. Thank you guys for always putting on a great event and look forward to the future of FAST. The Lakeland parking lot looks awesome with tons of track possibilities, plus lots fresh painting to turn black!!

I probably mowed over more cones during this event than I have hit all season. Thanks course workers! But I did get a good clean run or two that felt fast, and I could feel the new clutch grab. Thanks again to the organizers for this super fun event and the great pizza lunch. I have faith that you will identify new sites that will be local to Tampa and still allow for challenging courses.

I also really enjoyed my ride alongs and wanted to say thanks...blue GTI, silver 5.0, white Integra, siver BRZ, red 5.0, white WRX. Good times for sure! Here is a GoPro angle that I really like for seeing how close I am getting to the cones:

That is a fun angle!

Close to cones - check!

Smooth inputs - check!

Not getting lost - check!

Exhaust note - check!

Tire squeal - ... uh... Tire squeal?

Might need to work on that "push harder" part. 8-) Find out where the limit of those new tires is.

My quickest if not my best run as I clipped a cone in that damn offset slalom going out.
